EQ adventures
Adventure in the Wild West: Adventure is a hugely important part of EQ’s repertoire. Over a long weekend in mid-August, British friends of Equilibrium wanted to see the relatively remote western part of Bulgaria that aligns with the Serbian border. The trip turned into an extravaganza for connoisseurs of rock formations as both Vratsa (a Mecca for alpinists) and the surreal landscape of Belogradchik were on the itinerary. David came out of retirement as a rock climber to follow the new hot-shot, Vihren (aged 15), up some pretty testing climbs on Vratsa’s vertical walls – an adventure that culminated in an 100 metre rappel using a series of bolts in the rock. Vihi has just gained a recognized qualification in alpinism and is now a highly-valued member of EQ’s outdoor team.
While Annie, Vihren and Galya (mum) explored among Belogradchik’s rock pinnacles and gargoyles (some 200 million years ago, they were at the bottom of an ocean) David acted as tour guide for the Brits. After exploring Vidin’s famous Baba Vida fortress, they explored the remote villages that nestle among the hills on the Serbian border.
Certain regrets arise out of the trip – the travelers missed the birthday celebrations staged for Desi (EQ member and director of the complex) and Diana (EQ member and manager of the Pink House).
Exclusive offer: By working in cooperation with a bonded tour operator, EQ is able to offer adventure activity packages for families, youth clubs or school parties. We simply ask that you provide a brief profile of the children concerned and we will tailor a Bulgarian Adventure especially for them.
